Share Our Wine’s 12th Annual Auction Wine is best when shared. Wine geeks love to share their wine. They love to uncork a bottle from their cellar and tell tales of its vintage, its terroir, and how they garnered that bottle. It isn’t about bragging—they’re truly paying homage to “wine is best when shared.” The Orange County non-profit organization, Share Our Wine, has turned this experience into a genuine service for Orange County children and families in need. In 2004, Share Our Wine’s founders—Steve Johnson, Jay Selman, and Brian Clarke—came up with the idea of asking friends to share their wine to raise money for charities. They crafted Auction Orange County, where one night each November friends and wine lovers bring a bottle as the price of admission to an evening of toasting, tasting, and bidding on live and silent auction items. The notion is brilliantly crafted since those who bring a bottle worthy of auction are the same ones interested in purchasing at the auction.

Now in its 12th year, Share Our Wine has raised more than $1.4 million dollars for Orange County charities such as Orangewood Foundation and Project Hope Alliance. The 2016 auction is from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12, at the Samueli Theater in Costa Mesa. With its growth and popularity, Share Our Wine now charges an entry fee of $150 per person, along with a bottle of wine that retails for $75 or more.
