Came here for a corporate event and it couldn't have gone better. The appetizers were set up outside...to die for pulled pork nacho bar, shrimp, brushetta, and pita triangles. The food was buffet style and was equally as delicious: fried chicken, white lasagna, mac and cheese, salad, shrimp, rolls, brussel sprouts and bacon. We had a large private room which... We were surprised that we had such a good experience for brunch on a Sunday. Our first impression was that this place is not for us, but the food won us over. I had the Honey Butter Benedict ($18) and it was really good. Biscuits with a fried chicken breast covered with jalapeño cream sauce. We dined early on a Saturday evening and the place was not too busy. The atmosphere is very casual, kind of dark and "dive" like - nothing fancy here. Sports were televised on screens over each side of the bar. The music was 70's rock. The hostess was friendly and our server (Frank) was very nice and attentive. I have had better experiences at other Max's.

This night, the place was empty and the service was very slow. The food was ok, although the pork belly bites were cold and the chicken took a long time to come out. I live basically upstairs to this restaurant. Live the outside area. Basically live at this place. Would recommend to anyone in Uptown Awesome food, good service, nice people. I had the Mac and cheese and fried chicken and loved it. Only sad thing is they only have soda in cans. Otherwise the place is awesome. Great staff and good food. The chicken was undercooked, they did not have pepper sauce for the greens, and when we were finished the waiter never returned to take our credit cards. We finally left cash so we would not be late for our movie. Probably will not return. Visited this restaurant for a birthday celebration. They were out of several different kinds of wine and the food was not hot when served. It took a good 20-30 minutes to get a drink from the very slow bartender. It was loud and uncomfortable.

I can't imagine why anyone would want to return after the initial visit. Pretty darn good chicken fried steak with eggs over easy, Texas toast, potatoes. Gravy was jalapeno cream - interesting take on the gravy - not quite enough gravy - you might need to ask for more. Same gravy on the honey eggs benedict with sliced fried chicken breast (over biscuits, not English muffins). Liked the chicken fried steak better -... Wish I had a picture!!
