Stylus sends music lovers one classic album on 12” vinyl and an accompanying wine every month, with the idea that each bottle perfectly compliments the tone of record - whether mellow and bluesy or jazzy and upbeat. The company is the brainchild of Russell Cook, a musician and journalist who wanted to help physical music lovers to fill the gaps in their record collection, and learn more about wine in the process. The Stylus team has worked closely with wine-merchant Great Western, as well as leading wine expert Angela Mount, to make sure the wine always lives up to the record. Founder Russell says:"The upsurge in record sales is in part due to a wider desire within society to own nice things again. "Technology dictates so much of our lives now, meaning our homes now lack what our parents and grandparents used to enjoy. People miss having real, tangible things – beyond just Netflix – that hold their attention. "We think owning a good record collection, loaded with albums that spark hours of conversation, fills that void."
As the months go by, Stylus members will receive albums by the likes of Fleetwood Mac, Prince, The Rolling Stones, Marvin Gaye and David Bowie. Modern-day classics, by artists such as Amy Winehouse, Massive Attack, The Strokes and Jay-Z are on the cards too. Beauty subscription boxes - in pictures Each box costs £35 per month and also includes artworks inspired by each pairing, so you’ll have something to put on your walls too. Just think - you’ll never again have to worry about disappointing a date with a cheap bottle of plonk and tinny music played through your smartphone. Perhaps it’s time to kick-start the annual self-gifting session and sign up. Sign up to Stylus here. drawn you to the wines! The Ball Buster is the only wine under $20 that has received 90 points and above for 11 consecutive years from the Wine Advocate. The 2012 Ball Buster – one of Australia's Greatest Value Wines 2014In writing about her personal favorite wine bargains of the year Lisa notes “ 2012 was a fantastic vintage in South Australia for effortlessly producing great value Shiraz and Grenache… one of the most consistent high-quality value wines out of the Barossa: The Ball Buster!” TAIT created “The Ball Buster” to fill a niche market in the USA for a Barossa Valley Shiraz based wine which would retail for around the $20US price point. The focus was on getting a quality wine in the bottle for that particular priceThe wine is now retailing for $19.99US due to the exchange rate, which is always a “Ball Busting” problem in itself! Each time something odd happens, we say to ourselves, it is a “Ball Buster”
Like the time we were loading a tanker with “The Ball Buster” blend and the tanker tipped up. Luckily we only lost 20 litres! As the back label suggests, the wine was going to be called “Michelle’s Block” after my wife Michelle however we really wanted something punchier and eyesomething that would standout and say “buy me”!! The quality of the wine would then lead them to buy the next case or two. As soon as our USA importers tasted the barrel sample they got onto the phone and explained this wine needed another name, as “Michelle’s Block” conjures up visions of a soft and elegant sort of wine – and trust me mates, this little beauty is nothing Sitting down with our neighbors, a thesaurus and the wine in our glasses, we brainstormed many ideas for the wine and back label. We laughed how the wine industry can ‘bust your balls’ and cause blood, sweat and tears. ideas in mind, the discussions with our US importer and our US agent’s brilliant
