PinotFile 94 Points:  "...Moderately dark reddish purple color in the glass. This wine really impresses with aromas of muddled black cherry and raspberry, along with spice and wooded forest infusions. The aromas achieve more penetration with time in the glass. Mid weight plus flavors of black cherry, blackberry and spice satisfy with added accents of dark caramel and char from oak. Intriguing and beautifully balanced, with a seductive velvety texture that makes you want to pour this syrupy Pinot on your waffle.

Recently awarded best Pinot Noir under $20 by Winestate “I try to make wines that are balanced first and foremost, and have refinement and interest. Their complexity is often subtle rather than overt, and they are made with food in mind. When approaching my winemaking, I am very open minded, I listen to others but will often take a path that many would not.” – Ant Moore Follow on social media… Pear Tree wines are predominantly made from our vineyards in the Waihopai Valley, in the Marlborough region. The Pear Tree vineyard is 90 acres, and the Duck n Pheasant vineyard is 70 acres. Within these are sections where each of our brands are developed individually based on growing techniques and the vagaries of the land such as soil type, orientation and water access.
Marlborough is a definitive new world wine region that is synonymous with sauvignon blanc; defining the varietal category in the 1990′s. There is a wide diversity of geography; snow capped mountains, rugged coastlines, and river flats. It’s a cool maritime climate, with long sunny clear summer days. There is a large diurnal temperature range. Grapes grown in sub regions or Marlborough: fertile river flats to mountain ridges and slopes. The result is typically slow ripening fruit, with fresh vibrant flavours and good natural acidity. New Zealand is the epitomised unspoilt environment. It is naturally beautiful, sparsely populated, pure and pristine. New Zealanders have long been environmentally conscious, having the benefit of developing the wine industry more recently. They are also innovative, driven by the isolation from the rest of the world. Our estate vineyard ‘Pear Tree’ lies in the Waihopai Valley, Marlborough, New Zealand and is positioned on a gentle sloping valley ridge.
The vineyard has moderately fertile, stoney and clay based soil. Together with the harsh climate, we have naturally restricted vigor, resulting in wines that have more minerality and are restrained. The clay helps retain water and develop Pear Tree’s herbaceous-ness. A departure from the Marlborough norm, the Pear Tree vineyard is located off the valley floor adding to the complexity and balance of the wines. We predominantly grow Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Gris. The Pinot Noir we wine-make comes from vineyards both close by, and in Central Otago. Although we produce mainly still wines, when fruit show characteristics that lend themselves specifically suitable, we will ferment sparkling. Our brands tend to be vibrant and fresh as a result of our vineyard’s characteristics. Our wine-making techniques and intent result in typically balanced, subtle and restrained wines.
