A casual, comfortable place. The hostess was very nice and knowledgeable. She was informative both about Red Car Winery but also talked about wine making in general. We happened to really enjoy the music playlist. All in all, a fun stop -- an unexpected experience. Red Car Wine Co. is burgeoning winemaker in the far nether regions in the heart of Sonoma County, their tasting room is located near Graton, off the corner of Graton Road and the Gravenstein Highway. They started in Santa Barbara and they specialize in Pinots, so they decided to relocate up here, thanks to the high quality fruit and cool... A very nice indoor wine tasting room. In the event of extreme weather a small to medium sized party can be accomodated.Check with them before arriving with larger groups. One of my favorites, what a treat this wine and winery is! You will not regret taking the time for a quick visit or even stay a while. Wonderful wine that's not a typical touristy place. We booked a tasting at Red Car, and the experience was very fun.

There was one other couple at our tasting, and Michael and Dawn with Red Car took great care of us. We got to sample five of their Pinot Noir offerings and had a chance to experience how different the taste is based on where the vineyard is...Very cool atmosphere and tasting room. Laid back and casual. A little pushy to buy/join their club even after we stated we couldn't afford the club right now and we didn't want to ship any wine home at the time. But very helpful in that they helped us find where their wines were distributed in Minnesota. Cool winery... wine was good...bring an album and play it on the turntable..the people working in winery were super nice! Relaxed and fun wine tasting with my fiancé and friends. Generous pours, knowledgeable staff, cool vibe. I have recommended this winery tasting room to others visiting the area. Michael provided an excellent tasting where we learned a lot, especially using Port Tongs to carefully and safely cut off the neck of a wine bottle, followed by placing an ice cube around the heated area of the wine bottle to get it to snap off.

Red Car was founded by Carroll Kemp and Mark Estrin in 2000 with 50 cases of Syrah from a single ton of grapes. Besides an enthusiasm for wine, they also shared a Hollywood background – Carroll as producer, Mark as screenwriter. Their intent was simple: source great grapes, make great wine and market it in an inventive, original way. The winery name is a tribute to the electric trolley cars that ran throughout Los Angeles from the late 19th century through the early 1960’s. These "red cars" provided transportation in a romanticized time and place.
