The South African Wine Index (SAWi) has released its ranking of the top wine producers in South Africa, and the leading brand in each wine category. The SAWi compares and condenses results from 84 multinational competitions, reviews and listings, and acknowledges the nature of the competition and additional accolades bestowed on a wine, expressing all the data as a single number out of 100. “Through SAWi’s Mathematical algorithm patterns are recognized making it easy to distinguish wines which are consistently accepted as exceptional. Most importantly, it allows a comparison of like with like,” the group said. The overall SAWi Index sat at 87.4 in the 2015 listing, down from 88.1 in 2014.

They are believed to be cl...The 2016 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition winners Red Sweepstake Winner (Tie) Wine Label Sweepstake Winner The winners of the 2016 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition (SFCWC) were announced on Friday, after receiving a record 7,162 entries this year — the highest number of wine entries to date. For four days, 65 judges from around the nation and world met in Sonoma County to deliberate and choose the best wines from the entries. Submissions came in from across the country, from the smaller, independent winemakers and boutique wineries to the large scale producers. The competition this year expanded to include five new categories of ciders: Heritage ciders, fruit ciders, culinary ciders, wood-aged ciders and specialty ciders.
