I am curious now about those tiny liquer bottles. Yes, I think you should be able to bring a small bottle of liquor or wine as long as it is 3 oz or less, you put it in a 1 quart Ziploc clear plastic bag, and take that bag out in advance so it can be separately checked. Now if you want to bring it on the plane to drink it that is another story. You cannot consume alcohol on an airplane that you brought on yourself. Only the flight attendant can serve you alcohol. I think the purpose of that is so the flight attendants can monitor your consumption. Now if you don't get caught . . . . I have always brought those tiny wine bottles on and have never had a problem. I know it sounds cheap but they charge you $5.00 for one bottle and you can buy four at the store for less. You can now purchase drinks after security and take them on so I would think small liquer bottles as long as they fit in that zip lock would be OK. Anyone brave enough to call the airline and ask? I don't think there is any restriction on what sort of liquid as long as it's in a 3 oz (or less) bottle in a quart-size zip top bag.
If it isn't in a zip top, you might get through or might not. Why take the chance? You can probably make it through with the small liquor bottles (like those in the hotel room) b/c they are less than 3 oz, I think. But most small wine bottles are about bigger than that, so unless you can purchase them after security, I don't think you'll be able to carry on. And if you can purchase after security, you may as well take a big bottle. I don't think you can purchase bottles of wine at the airport, can you? you can buy bottles of wine in some airports -- duty free (honolulu) ... of course, not sure you can purchase if you aren't leaving the country. In Charlotte, NC, the airport has a wine shop; One destination mentioned in this post i've only ever seen wine for sale in duty-free shops, which yes, are restricted to those leaving the country. be careful, drinking your own liquor on a plane could cost you a lot more than you would think ... About two months ago I was flying Hawaiian Air back to Hawaii and someone was caught trying to bring their own liquor on (not through duty free), and it was a HUGE deal.
First they held up the flight while they resolved it. They wanted to not let the guy on the flight at all. Then they made a huge deal to the passengers announcing it is a FEDERAL OFFENSE to consume alcohol not served by an attendant ... and the guy was nearly arrested for arguing that it was no big deal. I was sitting a row away from the flight attendants and they talked about it the whole flight ... they were flipped out about it. I was a little surprised at the amount of adrenaline they were pumping over this incident, but I assure you it was way serious.I'd say it's not worth it. The climate in the air today is not forgiving for people caught breaking rules. to save a couple dollars? I don't think it's a good idea to take any liquid in carryon that you've poured out of the original container and into another. That's asking for trouble too if they catch it. I'm pretty sure the new regs state everything is to be in original packaging. They made me pour out the brandy I had in my tiny 2.5 oz. flask, but then again, it wasn't in a plastic bag.
