One of the largest wine areas in southern Tuscany, Banfi lets you become immersed into the history and the current day wine production.
There is a building where wine tastings are offered and the products can be bought. The tastings are not free, but allow you to get a feel for the regional treasures. I found my new favourite red... I was invited to the Castello Banfi because of a CLANTE dinner and wine tasting. What an incredible experience to see the grounds, visit the wineries and enjoy a magnificent evening of dining. I'd go out of my way to return to this area. Had a lovely wine tasting, and enjoyed some beautiful views. at the end, bought a big bottle of proscessco which was enjoyed by our hole family staying in grosetto Beautiful place to visit. All the area is full of wineries but this one is absolutely the best. Their Brunnello is fantastic but quite expensive. There are a lot of level of Brunnello and other wines, for every pocket. We had the most amazing time at the winery. The owner came in as we were enjoying a tasting. "Wonderful wine is produced here" We had unfortunately missed the last wine tour of the day and she graciously offered a small tour of the Aged balsamic facility and the Castello's glass collection spanning the last 2500 years.
We expected this to be good and last a couple hours.....a couple turned into more than five and worth it. While a big volume place, Banfi does it with quality, and their best wines are really good. The winery operation is massive. Lunch in the Taverna was wonderful.....and with additional wines not tasted on the tour. Worth the price overall. What a great experience. Tour, tasting and excellent lunch. First class experience and beautiful weather. Only had time for a walk through of glass museum. More time next time! And they have accommodations as well. If you have the wonderful chance to be driving through Tuscany, definitely make the time to stop at the Banfi Winery and glass museum. There is so much history to enjoy with the glass pieces. The store has so many types of wine, chocolates and cookies...you will not be disappointed! I was a little skeptical about going to Banfi since my fiancé and I wanted to visit smaller wineries to get a more authentic feel of tuscany but, we were pleasantly surprised.
