The tour began promptly, leaving the city and heading into the hillside. Very good wines were served at 3 locations. History of the vineyards as well as the making of Chianti was discussed in detail. Lunch was delicious and the view from the restaurant was something you see in magazines or movies. We were a mixed group of Americans, Australians, Canadians, New Zealanders , and Europeans. She made sure we were flooded with information from start to finish and graciously let us have as much wine as we liked within reason haha. The scenery was outstanding, the wineries perfect. Lunch was a dream. We were so lucky with the weather and it just made the trip.
Absolutely a highlight of my Italian trip. My only concern was that the way it was advertised made it feel as though it would be a small group - it wasn't. A busload of people isn't as intimate as I had hoped, especially as I was travelling alone. But it was a brilliant day and I think all the locations and back roads were incredibly well chosen. Beautiful region and the visit to the little village of Greve in the heart of the Chianti Classico region topped off the day in a spectacular way. The wineries were amazing - from touring the grounds to getting a lesson in organic farming - we learned and drank so much. The best part of the day for me was probably the lunch. Denis taught us so much about local/traditional foods, and taught us about the restaurant we were going to before we arrived so we had some background of what we were eating. Possibly our favorite meal of the entire trip!
Lots of couples on the tour, as would be expected, but we were traveling as a mother/daughter duo and had a wonderful time.
