The 2011 vintage is being lined up to be amongst the greats. 8The very hot Summer lead to a split declaration where vineyards on higher ground and with better drought tolerance tended to produce better although low yielding fruit. This vintage is being compared with 2003. 6A cold Winter meant lower than usual yields. Not widely declared, but Noval and the single quintas produced good wines. Stunning wines from an exceptional year. Excellent long term potential. 8These wines have traditional tannin based tones with rich fruit flavours. Volumes were low in 2000 although it is now considered a classic year; the wines are rich and strong. 9Full bodied and well balanced.

A highlight from the 20th century. Outstanding port with exceptional ripe fruit structure and full flavour. Few declared but those that did have produced excellent examples. 8A small yield this year but of very good quality. Declared by most port houses. 8A classic Vintage Port; Some 2014 tastings from well known producers were not quite as good as expected; however a few top tier wines were outstanding. Choice of producer is important for 1985 as the longevity of some wines is in question. 7An exceptional year with wonderfully powerful wines. However the 1977 and 1985 vintages appealed more so 1983 is a good value Port. Declared by most houses. 6A softer wine maturing well. 7Good wines but similar to 1983 is great value at auction. 9Declared by the major houses. An excellent vintage with a long finish and complex structure. 6A smooth and light wine and very quaffable. 9A superb port declared by the major houses. Excellent balance, structure and finish. A very fine port drinking well. An exceptional Vintage Port and good value in view of the quality.

The source for the information is the regulating council of each Denomination of Origin (DO). 1913 Another poor to moderate vintage for Bordeaux. 1914 Excellent vintage for Bordeaux. 1915 War time in France, so very little wine available. 1916 Average year and always tannic. 1917 Bordeaux had a good vintage, but still war time so not much about. 1919 Good vintage but earlier drinking style, so not a lot has survived. 1920 Fine vintage in Bordeaux. 1964 A very good vintage that has drunk well throughout, so now scarce.  1965 Poor weather led to a poor year. I have drunk several great wines from 1966. 1967 Pick and choose, but Claret not great; 1968 Poor to moderate year.
