Our Wine Flight Special $25 2 Flights with a Small Cheese Plate1. OrangeboomOne of the most drinkable and best value-for-money imported lagers in the market is the Dutch Orangeboom. Don’t be fooled by the name, there’s nothing orange about this beer flavour-wise. It’s an out and out lager. Cost: Rs 150 in Delhi 2. HoegaardenThe most popular wheat beer in the country, this Belgian wit is perfect on a sunny day over brunch thanks to its prominent citrus notes. Stocks have been a problem lately, but going by what we hear, it should back on the shelves soon enough. Cost: Rs 200 in Delhi 3. Asahi Super DryJapan’s first dry beer has a clean, crisp and restrained bitterness. This light golden lager has a subtle citrus aroma and is flavourful and balanced. Needless to say it pairs well with sushi. Cost: Rs 180 in Delhi 4. TsingtaoChina’s most famous brew that isn’t in a teapot, Tsingtao is a fun, refreshing lager. 5. Estrella Damm BarcelonaThis Spanish lager (pilsner) is everything a light lager should be – refreshing, light-bodied, a slightly bitter finish and enough flavour to hold its own.

6. Peroni Nastro AzzurroAnother lager on this list is the Italian Peroni. Originally imported into India, it is now made in the country allowing for an affordable yet chic product. Cost: Rs 120 in Delhi 7. HeinekenThis Dutch brand has done a fairly good job of positioning themselves in India. Cold, fresh and pleasant enough to have you knocking back one pint after the other. Cost: Rs 100 in Delhi 8. CoronaThis is the type of beer you either love or hate. Light, easy-drinking and not too much carbonation, this Mexican import is ritualistically served with a wedge of lime in the bottle neck. Fun fact: This little charade originated back in Mexico where bottles and glasses would be rimmed with lime to keep flies away. 9. Kingfisher UltraWe can’t really leave Kingfisher off this list now, can we? You might be the kind that curls up your nose at the mention of this Indian lager but you surely can’t ignore it. Ultra is a smoother version of the beer. Cost: Rs 80 in Delhi.

10. Budweiser MagnumAmong the strong beers made in this country, the Bud Magnum is, perhaps, the most palatable. Surprisingly smooth, crisp and easy to drink (and gets the job done a lot quicker!). Cost: Rs 135 for 750ml in Delhi 11. TuborgThe preferred picnic beer because of its pull-tab, Tuborg has quite a following. Locally brewed, it has a more prominent bitter finish than Kingfisher Ultra, Carlsberg and Heineken. Cost: Rs 55 in Delhi 12. KingsWhen in Goa, you must drink Kings. This portly black bottle is the ideal companion as you lounge on the beach. Take it outside of its environment and somehow, it just doesn’t taste as good. Cost: Rs 30 for a pint in Goa. 13. Estrella Galicia:Make sure you don’t confuse this brand with the other Estrella on this list. Although both are Spanish lagers, they are quite different in taste. Estrella Galicia has more prominent malty notes and a longer lasting finish. Cost: Rs 190 in Delhi 14. Stella ArtoisThis pilsner brewed in Belgium is one of the most widely available imported beers.

Served traditionally in a chalice-shaped glass, Stella has a cult following of its own. 15. Independence Brewing Company, Pune ‘Oaked Brown Ale’One of IBC’s best, this dark ale is oaked (via wood chips) for three months to give it a lovely complexity. Notes of burnt caramel and hints of coffee come together perfectly for a lovely malty goodness. If you like dark ales, this is certainly one to try. Cost: Rs 180 in Pune 16. Gateway Brewing Company, Mumbai ‘White Zen’There are few things as good as a creamy, refreshing wheat beer straight out of a tap. GBCs White Zen is a word play on the Germany Hefeweizen. Available in multiple outlets across Mumbai, the price depends on where you go to grab a pint. Cost: During Happy Hours at Woodside Inn Colaba, a 1 + 1 at Rs 245. 17. Toit, Bengaluru ‘Dark Knight'Toit’s famous stout has a deliciously rich coffee- dark chocolate aroma with a creamy, fully bodied texture. The roasted malt lends it that characteristic dark brown-black colour.

Cost: Rs 200 in Bengaluru 18. Arbor Brewing Company, Bengaluru ‘Raging Bull’The buzzword when it comes to beer these days is IPA. The origins of the Indian Pale Ale is closely connected to colonial India and has made a recent resurgence thanks to the microbreweries here. Not one for the faint-hearted, the Raging Bull has an intense floral, hoppy note and the characteristic bitterness of an IPA while still being well-balanced and very flavourful. Cost: Rs 175 in Bengaluru 19. Bira 91 WhiteThe newest beer in town, Bira 91 is crafted for the Indian market but brewed in Belgium. The Bira 91 White is a refreshing wheat beer with hints of citrus and a soft finish. Currently available on tap and bottles will soon follow. Cost: Rs 175 in Delhi 20. Bira 91 BlondeAlso from the Bira fold is this golden lager. It is very aromatic for a lager with floral and citrus notes. On the palate, it’s more pleasant and with a longer finish than the White. Cost: Rs 175 in Delhi
