Thank you to all the visitors and exhibitors who attended the 2017 Wines from Spain Annual tasting The 2017 Wines from Spain Annual Tasting took place at Tobacco Dock on Thursday 9 March. 64 producers and importers showcased their Spanish wine portfolios and shared the energy and creativity found in the vineyards and wineries all around Spain. Over a thousand wines from 69 DOs were available to taste on the day, while a programme of masterclasses and self-pour tastings enabled visitors to focus on particular regions and styles. Spanish gastronomy took centre stage at lunch time with some of Tapas Revolution’s signature dishes served alongside a selection of white, rose and red wines. As Bobal has suffered massive uprooting in favor of international varieties in recent decades, this represents a cultural patrimony for Juan Miguel Tolosa, third generation of the winemaking family. History: Manchuela lies to the northeast of the La Mancha meseta between the J�car and Cabriel River valleys, and well above the coastal plains of Valencia andIt represents the ancestral home of one of Spain�s most interesting and underappreciated red varieties, the Bobal. Vega Tolosa was founded by the Tolosa family in 1905, currently with 150 hectares (375 acres) under vine. At over 750 meters in altitude, Vega Tolosa�s vineyards enjoy a wide diurnal temperature variation and constant breeze. Calcareous clay soils retain moisture and provide minerality. Minimal treatments are required in the vineyards, the viticulture in most years being completely organic. Through low yields and careful winemaking, the purest expression of Bobal is the Tolosa family�s primary objective.
Wines from Spain celebrated its 23rd Spain’s Great Match in New York and San Francisco in 2016. The events were wildly successful and showcased the very best of Spanish wine, food and design! In conjunction with partners like the Spanish Tourism Board, AirEuropa, Fagor, Vondom and more, we explored and toasted the wonders of Spanish culture with over a thousand members of the wine trade and consumers.
